Gymnast Nagorny said that he would go to the 2024 Olympics in neutral status
Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics Nikita Nagorny appreciated the opportunity to compete at the 2024 Games. His words are quoted by Match TV.
Nagorny said that he would agree to go to the tournament in a neutral status. “We have already competed at the Tokyo Games under the flag of the Russian Olympic Committee without our tricolor and anthem – we showed a very worthy result. There were also restrictions, but the whole team was united and supported each other,” he explained.
Earlier, the senior coach of the Russian artistic gymnastics team, Valentina Rodionenko, said that domestic athletes refused to participate in the World Cup stages, which are qualifying for the Olympics. The reason for this decision was the admission conditions put forward by the International Gymnastics Federation.
On December 8, the International Olympic Committee announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine and have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not get to Paris. Representatives of team sports will also miss the tournament.
