Mamiashvili: The IOC is trying to split the Russian community with the terms of admission to the Olympic Games
President of the Russian Wrestling Federation Mikhail Mamiashvili assessed the conditions for admission of Russians to the 2024 Olympic Games. His words are reported by RIA Novosti.
Mamiashvili accused the International Olympic Committee (IOC) of trying to split the Russian sports community. “We need to analyze these not entirely ethical, to put it mildly, recommendations for the admission of our athletes. The conditions that are put forward to us do not fit into the same framework as the Olympic Charter,” he noted.
On December 8, the IOC announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. Six Russians and five Belarusians have currently qualified for the Games.
At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine and have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not get to Paris. Representatives of team sports will also miss the tournament.
