Putin responded to sanctions against Russian sports

Putin called the actions of Western sports officials a perversion

Russian President Vladimir Putin responded to sanctions against Russian sports. He spoke about this during the “Results of the Year with Vladimir Putin”, the broadcast of which is available on the Rutube channel of “Russia 1”.

“Everything that international officials do in relation to Russian sports is a complete contradiction, a perversion of the idea of Pierre de Coubertin “Oh sport, you are the world.” Sport was created for this purpose, so that it would unite people, and not separate them,” the head of state noted.

On December 12, the President of the Russian Olympic Committee, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, said that each domestic athlete will make his own decision regarding participation in the 2024 Olympics. At the same time, he reminded that they will be responsible for their choice for the rest of their lives.

On December 8, the IOC announced that Russians and Belarusians would be admitted to the 2024 Olympics. They will be able to participate in competitions as individual neutral athletes (AIN); representatives of team sports will not get to Paris. In addition, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries will not be allowed to participate in the Games.
