Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to admit Russians to the 2024 Olympic Games (OG). This was reported by a Lenta.ru correspondent.
“I have always said that athletes should be given the opportunity to perform at major competitions, including the Olympic Games. Everyone knows that these are our athletes, under our flag or not,” he said.
However, the head of state called for a careful analysis of the conditions put forward by the IOC. “If these are politically motivated artificial conditions aimed at cutting off our leaders, medal contenders, then the Ministry of Sports and the Russian Olympic Committee must make an informed decision,” he emphasized.
On December 8, the IOC announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN). According to the latest data, six Russians and five Belarusians have qualified for the tournament.
At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, including those belonging to the structures of CSKA and Dynamo, will not be allowed to participate in the Games. Representatives of team sports will also miss the tournament.
