Ankaragucu President Koca resigned after beating a referee on the field
Turkish Ankaragucu President Faruk Koca resigned after beating referee Halil Umut Meler after the match against Rizespor in the 15th round of the Super League. This was reported on Instagram (the social network is banned in the Russian Federation; it belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned) teams.
Koca said he apologizes to the entire Turkish referee community, football players and the people of Turkey. He emphasized that he had decided to resign as head of the team in order to avoid further damage to the club.
Earlier on December 12, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) suspended the national championship due to the incident. It happened in the match of the 15th round of the Super League between Ankaragucu and Rizespor (1:1).
At the end of the game, Ankaragucu President Faruk Koca ran onto the field and hit referee Halil Umut Meler in the face. The referee fell on the lawn and received several more blows from people who ran up. After this he was hospitalized.
