The International Cycling Union (UCI) has not granted a UCI Women’s WorldTour license for the 2024 and 2025 seasons to the Laboral Kutxa-Fundación Euskadi teamas announced this Tuesday by the Basque formation that, in this way, will continue to maintain its UCI Women’s Continental Team license. The highest international cycling body, as Laboral Kutxa has specified, has made the decision “applying sporting criteria”: “Successes come when you firmly believe in what you do, and our dream continues,” the Basque team stated in the social network X. In the men’s platoon, Euskaltel-Euskadi, Caja Rural and Kern Pharma also maintain their UCI ProTeam licensefor the 2024 season.

In this context, Laboral Kutxa had requested the UCI to be included in the list of WorldTour teams, that is, in the highest category of international cycling, but The UCI, which has granted 15 licenses in that first division, has not responded to their request: “Next year, we will not be a WorldTour team,” Laboral Kutxa announced, “but it will not be because we have not tried or because we have not shown the UCI that we are prepared for it,” he highlighted.

The UCI, in its statement, has explained that the licenses granted will be valid for the next two seasons, while those awarded within two years will be for a period of three campaigns.

As for the male platoonthe three professional teams of Euskal Herria, Euskaltel-Euskadi, Caja Rural-Seguros RGA and Kern Pharmawill continue in 2024 with their UCI ProTeam licensethat is, the one corresponding to the second division of international cycling.
