the clubs of Premier League decided on Tuesday to lift the ban on sponsorship contracts between teams and their owners, established in mid-October and which appeared to target Newcastle and its new millionaire Saudi owners.
A working group, which included Amanda Staveley, one of the leaders of the Magpies, drew up a new regulation on transactions with third parties, which was approved this Tuesday by the entities of the Premier League, reported the British agency PA.
Under the new rule, sponsorship deals made by clubs close to the owners will be allowed as long as they reflect a realistic market value. The remuneration of players or the technical committee can also be assumed by these entities, but must be the object of a declaration.
“This moratorium [sobre os contratos de patrocínio] it has been very difficult for us […] This was not expected to happen. How could we have imagined that all our commercial contracts would be cancelled?” Staveley lamented last month in statements to Newcastle’s television network.
According to the PA, the Premier League will decide on the evaluation of the contracts after hearing the arguments of the interested clubs, the opinion of an independent expert and comparing the terms with a database that gathers similar signed contracts before issuing its opinion.
