The head of the ROC warned about the responsibility of Russians who want to compete at the Olympics

Head of the ROC Pozdnyakov: athletes from the Russian Federation will make their own decision about going to the Olympics

The President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov warned athletes wishing to compete at the Games in Paris. His words on Tuesday, December 12, are quoted by TASS.

“Each person chooses his own path in this life. In some cases, this path does not coincide with the expectations of the majority [представителей] public. Each person will be responsible for his choice for the rest of his life,” said the head of the ROC. He noted that each athlete from the Russian Federation will choose for himself whether to go to the upcoming Olympics.

Earlier on December 12, Pozdnyakov announced the refusal of the majority of Russian athletes to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games due to the admission conditions put forward by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The functionary called them unacceptable and illegitimate.

On December 8, the IOC announced that Russians and Belarusians would be allowed to participate in the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to compete as Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN). At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries will not be allowed to participate in the Games.
