The head of the ROC Pozdnyakov announced the refusal of the overwhelming number of Russians to participate in the Olympic Games

The head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Stanislav Pozdnyakov, announced the refusal of the overwhelming number of representatives of the country to participate in the 2024 Games in Paris. RIA Novosti reports this.

Pozdnyakov called the conditions of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the admission of athletes unacceptable and illegitimate. “Under these conditions, the overwhelming number of Russian athletes will consider it unacceptable to perform at this kind of Games,” he said.

Earlier, Olympic figure skating champion Alexei Yagudin assessed the feasibility of Russian athletes participating in the Games in Paris. “Of course, we have to go. I always advocate that this is the life of a person, an athlete. Time passes when you are at your maximum. That’s why we have to go,” he said.

On December 8, the IOC announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN). At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the Games.
