In Belarus, admission to the Olympics in a neutral status was called discrimination
The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus criticized the admission of athletes to the 2024 Olympic Games (OG) in a neutral status. The statement is available on the organization’s website.
“We welcome the admission of Belarusian athletes to the Games in Paris, but the decision taken does not fully satisfy the interests of the Belarusian sports community,” the NOC noted. The statement emphasized that the conditions for participation in the tournament put forward by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) are extremely discriminatory.
On December 8, the IOC announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the Games.
At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus on the recommendation of the IOC.
