FIFA announced nominations for Eleven of the Year. One of the nominations is actually funny

This is the 16th time that FIFPro (the International Federation of Professional Footballers) have jointly selected the best squad for the calendar year. Professional footballers take part in the vote. This year, almost 20,000 votes from 69 countries were collected. So far 55 players have been selected, and this time 23 players have been selected. The awarded eleven will be announced on January 17 during the gala.

Among the nominees … Dani Alves, who has not played football for several months

While among the nominated goalkeepers (Alisson Becker, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Edouard Mendy) it is difficult to find any surprises, when choosing defenders there was one. It was hard to imagine that among the top six defenders there would be a place for Dani Alves, who won Olympic gold, but is 38 years old and has not played football for several months. He will return to the pitch in January, again for Barcelona. And since we are already in Catalonia, we are also surprised by the presence of Sergio Busquets, who was awarded among the midfielders.

Among the nominated strikers, there was, of course, the best footballer of the previous year. The Bayern striker scored 52 points, the maximum possible number. According to the rules, the winner of each of the four categories (voting of the selectors, national team captains, journalists and fans) received 13 points. Poles were number one everywhere!

• The attackers: Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski, Romelu Lukaku, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, Neymar
