Russian gymnasts refused to participate in the World Cup stages due to FIG criteria
The senior coach of the Russian artistic gymnastics team, Valentina Rodionenko, said that domestic athletes refused to participate in the World Cup stages. Her words are quoted by Match TV.
The specialist emphasized that gymnasts will miss competitions until the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) changes the admission criteria for Russians. “They offer us to practically abandon our country. I don’t know what needs to happen for them to change the conditions,” she considered.
On November 10, FIG revealed the conditions for admitting Russians to international tournaments. Team members should not have connections with the army or law enforcement agencies, and they should not support the special operation. In addition, athletes’ uniforms should be light blue, rhythmic gymnastics apparatus should be completely white, and the musical accompaniment should not hint at nationality.
Russian gymnasts have not taken part in tournaments since March 2022 due to FIG sanctions.
