Olympic silver medalist in pole vault Anzhelika Sidorova retired
Olympic silver medalist in pole vaulting Anzhelika Sidorova has retired. She announced this on her Telegram page.
“I think many of you already understood where things were going and it seems that the time has come to put an end to it. For the whole year, from the moment I found out that I was pregnant, I tried to persuade myself not to rush, I left myself a chance to change my mind, but it didn’t work out,” the athlete wrote, noting that she stopped enjoying athletics.
Sidorova shared that she tried to maintain respect for the World Athletics Association, but it was not mutual. She noted that this was not how she imagined the moment when she would end her career.
32-year-old Sidorova is the 2014 European champion and 2019 world champion. On September 27, the athlete gave birth to a son.
On December 8, the International Olympic Committee announced the admission of Russians to the 2024 Olympics. At the same time, the head of World Athletics, Sebastian Coe, said that Russian athletes will miss the Games.
