St. Petersburg in 2023 topped the list of the most active regions in the field of tourism. The city “has been and remains a world-class tourist center,” said Governor Alexander Beglov of the Northern capital.
“Today we are developing new tourist routes, opening comfortable hotels, and actively developing business tourism. We have created a Unified Events Calendar to make it easier to navigate the many concerts, festivals, and holidays held in the city,” noted the head of St. Petersburg.
The press service of Smolny, citing the forecast of specialists from the St. Petersburg Turbarometer, reported that the number of tourists visiting the city in 2023 will reach 9.4 million people, which is 1.3 million more than in 2022.
Analysts explain the growth in tourist flow to the Northern capital by the restoration of business activity within the country, the adaptation of the tourism industry to changed conditions and the implementation of the information campaign “Welcome to St. Petersburg!”
Also, according to them, the introduction of an electronic visa for citizens of 55 countries affected the tourist flow. Among tourists from neighboring countries, residents of Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Armenia most often come to St. Petersburg, and from far abroad – from China, Iran, Turkey, India and the UAE.
