Russian track and field athletes will miss the 2024 Olympic Games

World Athletics announced that Russians will not compete at the 2024 Olympics

The World Athletics Association answered a question about the participation of Russians in the 2024 Olympic Games. The words of the head of the organization, Sebastian Coe, are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Coe announced that World Athletics’ position on the Russians’ performance has not changed – the athletes will miss the Olympics. At the same time, World Athletics has created a working group to consider the return of athletes from Russia and Belarus to international competitions.

On December 8, the International Olympic Committee announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN). Currently, eight Russian athletes have qualified for the 2024 Games.

At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the Games. Representatives of team sports will also miss the tournament.

At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus on the recommendation of the IOC.
