40-year-old Ilya Kovalchuk resumed his career and signed a contract with Spartak
Olympic hockey champion Ilya Kovalchuk resumed his playing career by signing a contract with Moscow Spartak, Championship reports.
This was announced during the regular season match of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), in which the red-whites play Dynamo. Kovalchuk will wear number 71 for Spartak.
In October, 40-year-old Kovalchuk spoke about a possible resumption of his playing career. According to him, he is considering the option only with Moscow Spartak.
Kovalchuk played in the National Hockey League for several clubs for more than ten years. The forward’s last team was Omsk Avangard, with whom he won the Gagarin Cup. The athlete suspended his career after the 2020/2021 season. He is a student of Spartak.
