Ukrainian Maguchikh called for banning Russians from participating in international tournaments
Ukrainian athlete Yaroslava Maguchikh on Instagram (the social network is banned in the Russian Federation; it belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned) made an appeal regarding Russian and Belarusian athletes.
Maguchikh asked everyone to support the ban on Russians and Belarusians from participating in international tournaments. She called the athletes strong and unshakable people, drawing attention to the fact that Ukrainians enter competitions with sorrow. “Each of them is heartbroken,” the high jumper emphasized.
On October 30, Maguchikh said that Russian woman Maria Lasitskene contacted her in the summer of 2022 after the media wrote about the lack of response to the political situation. She stated that she refused to communicate with Lasitskene, since she should have made contact earlier.
During the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Lasitskene and Maguchikh took a group photo. The athletes won gold and bronze, respectively, in the high jump competition. At home, the Ukrainian was criticized and was summoned for a conversation at the Ministry of Defense.
