The Badminton World Federation has suspended Russia’s membership in the organization
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has suspended the membership of the National Badminton Federation of Russia (NBFR). Reuters reports this.
According to the BWF, Russia has violated the terms of membership in the organization. This happened due to the inclusion of representative offices of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR), Kherson and Zaporozhye regions in the NFBR.
In August it became known that the BWF would allow Russians and Belarusians to compete. Athletes will be able to return to competition in a neutral status on February 26, 2024.
By decision of the BWF, Russian and Belarusian badminton players have not taken part in competitions since February 2022. All international tournaments planned in the two countries were also cancelled.
