Deputy Rodnina: Kamila Valieva will have to put more effort into jumping

Three-time Olympic champion in figure skating, State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina explained the excess weight of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. Her words are quoted by RBC.

“Valieva now has breaks, nervous shocks, and growth. Because of this, she became heavier,” Rodnina said. The deputy drew attention to the fact that the athlete will have to put in more effort to perform the jumps. She believed that women’s figure skating in Russia was awaiting change, called the process natural and refused to consider it a problem.

On November 27, Honored Trainer of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova said that Valieva not only gained weight, but also grew. She believed that the 17-year-old athlete was getting into shape and would soon regain all her jumps.

The figure skater is the subject of a doping investigation. Traces of a prohibited drug were found in Valieva’s sample from December 2021. The final decision in the athlete’s case will be made in January 2024.
