Maxim Trankov said that without international tournaments it is difficult for figure skaters to grow
Olympic champion, now Russian figure skating coach Maxim Trankov answered the question about the degradation of Russians without world tournaments. His words are quoted by RBC.
Trankov said that without international competitions, it is difficult for athletes to grow and develop, since motivation always comes with competition. “We have tournaments, albeit within the country. This is not enough, but we can only wait. Everyone wants to win and earn prize money,” he said.
Earlier, three-time Olympic champion in figure skating, State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina ridiculed the Russian Grand Prix in figure skating. Rodnina called the competition “the housing office championship.”
On March 1, 2022, the International Skating Union (ISU) banned Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions under its auspices. Due to sanctions, skaters were unable to take part in the World and European Championships, as well as in other international tournaments. In this regard, it was decided to hold the Russian Grand Prix.
