President of the Russian Fencing Federation (RFF) Ilgar Mamedov spoke about the interest of foreigners in the 2024 Friendship Games. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“During the work of the Congress [Международной федерации фехтования] we invited our foreign colleagues to the BRICS Games and the Friendship Games, which will be held in Russia. And they took these competitions with great pleasure,” he said. The head of the FRF noted that it would not be possible to invite everyone to the tournament, so a selection system will probably be introduced.
On November 17, the World Anti-Doping Agency reported that Russia does not have the right to organize the Friendship Games due to the lack of compliance status with the Russian Anti-Doping Agency.
On November 15, it became known that the International Olympic Committee recommended that national Olympic committees ignore the Friendship Games in Russia. It was noted that participation in competitions contradicts the sanctions imposed on Russian sports.
The Friendship Games will be held in Moscow and Yekaterinburg from September 15 to 29, 2024.
