Fetisov on checking Russians for connections with the military: they need to be sent away

Two-time Olympic champion and State Duma deputy Vyacheslav Fetisov appreciated the fact that international sports federations force Russian athletes to pay for verification for connections with military structures. His words are quoted by Sport Express.

“We need to send them away. It seems to me that there is no point in talking to them anymore. Then they will ask for something else,” Fetisov said. He considered that it was necessary to develop domestic sports and raise the level of competition within the country.

On November 23, General Director of the Russian Olympic Committee Vladimir Sengleyev said that international sports federations are checking through the media any connections with CSKA and Dynamo. He said that in gymnastics it costs three thousand francs for the athlete and 1.5 thousand for the staff, in rock climbing – five thousand francs, in archery – 750 euros.

On March 28, the International Olympic Committee recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in competitions.
