European track cycling champion Rostovtsev was admitted to international tournaments
Russian track cyclist Sergei Rostovtsev received neutral status. This was reported on the website of the International Cycling Union (UCI).
Now the 26-year-old Russian has been cleared to compete at international tournaments. In 2021, the athlete became the European champion in the knockout race. He also won bronze at the world championship in the same year.
On May 3, it became known about the admission of Russians to UCI tournaments in a neutral status. It was noted that athletes will be able to take part in the World Cup, Nations Cup and World Championships individually – without any associations with Russia, the national federation or the national Olympic committee. To participate, athletes and coaches had to fill out a specific form.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. Athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of the two countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in competitions.
