The State Duma called for changes to the Family Code of the Russian Federation and to consolidate the legal equivalence of the concepts of “marriage” and “family union.” Anton Tkachev, a deputy from the New People faction, sent a corresponding appeal to the head of the Ministry of Labor Anton Kotyakov, TASS reports.
The parliamentarian, explaining his initiative, said that some Russians “negatively perceive the concept of “marriage,” since in modern Russian the word “marriage” is also used in the meaning of “non-compliance with standards, defect.”
“Thus, citizens will have the opportunity to choose the name of the official document confirming the conclusion of a voluntary union between a man and a woman,” the appeal says. Tkachev believes that the legislative equalization of the concepts of “marriage” and “family union” will become “a significant symbolic factor for protecting the family and strengthening traditional family values.” At the same time, there will be no need to change other legislative acts in the Family Code of the Russian Federation, the deputy added.
If his proposal is approved, he asked the Ministry of Labor to instruct the relevant executive authorities to implement it.
Earlier, the State Duma explained why YouTube in Russia has not yet been blocked.
