Olympic champion Elvira Saadi appeals against life ban
Two-time Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics as part of the USSR national team, Elvira Saadi, has filed an appeal against a lifelong ban from the Canadian Gymnastics Federation. TSN reports this.
“I did not represent Saadi at the disciplinary hearing, where she was the only party who did not have the assistance of a lawyer paid for by Gymnastics Canada, but I am representing her in the appeal and can report that the appeal has already been filed,” said the Soviet gymnast’s lawyer Elliot Saccucci .
Previously, Saadi was stripped of membership in the Canadian Gymnastics Federation and any of its regional branches for ten years. The suspension includes a ban on all activities, including coaching, refereeing and program production.
In 2020, parents of gymnasts began to complain about Saadi. She was accused of causing physical harm and psychological abuse of her charges.
Saadi won gold in the team all-around at the 1972 and 1976 Olympic Games as a member of the USSR national team. In 1974, she became the world champion in the team and also won bronze in the floor exercise.
