Altuna wins its fourth txapela against a weak Etxeberria (22-9)
Euskaraz irakurri: Jokin Altunak bere laugarren txapela jantzi du, maila kaskarra eman duen Etxeberriari irabazita (22-9)
Jokin Altuna is the new champion of Cuatro y Medio, by defeating Peio Etxeberria in the grand final held at the Bizkaia fronton in Bilbao by a resounding 22-9. It is the fourth txapela that the magician from Amezketa has won in the cage, after those won in 2017, 2020 and 2021.
It has been, perhaps, the final that the Gipuzkoan has won most easily, not so much for his own merits as for his rival’s demerits. Peio Etxeberria has not been at the level expected after the magnificent championship he has played to date. Grieved by nerves and pressure, the Navarrese has barely disturbed his rival, whom he had won, curiously, in the three previous confrontations between the two at a distance.
The first goals were quick and with very little rallying. Altuna, who has started serving, quickly took a 3-0 lead. Peio reacted and got closer to 3-2, but that was all the pressure he could put on the 2022 runner-up.
The quick score favored Altuna, and Peio was not able to have the good start to the game that we are accustomed to.
A partial 9-1 He put Altuna ahead 12-3 on the scoreboard, in the first long break of the final. The game was already very uphill for Peio Etxeberria, with Altuna very focused and playing very calmly. Peio was unable to put Altuna in trouble, and has made major mistakes that they have condemned him throughout the game.
The minutes passed, and the goals continued to fall on Amezketa’s side. Etxeberria, for his part, was not successful in the rest, which has been, precisely, one of his strengths throughout the entire championship. A significant fact: Altuna has scored eight serve goals against the one who has been the best returner of the Cuatro y Medio.
Decided ending
With the 17-4 everything seemed decided on the Bizkaia fronton court, and only a miracle seemed to be able to change the course of the match. There hasn’t been. Altuna has punished the right of his rival, who has rebelled as his weakest point in today’s match.
The four-time champion of Cuatro y Medio has also given a little scare when he went to the locker room due to a blow to the shoulder at 19-7, just the shoulder that has given him problems since the summer. But nothing could take the victory away from him. With a forceful 22-9, Jokin Altuna has taken what is already his fourth txapela from the cage. At 27 years old, he already has 13 finals in Cuatro y Medio, Manomanista and Couples, and a total of seven txapelas.
The final, both: 1-0, 2-0, 3-03-1, 3-2, 4-2, 5-2, 6-2, 7-2, 8-2, 9-2, 9-3, 10-311-3, 12-3, 13-3, 14-3, 15-3, 15-4, 16-4, 17-4, 17-517-6, 18-6, 19-6, 19-7, 19-8, 20-8, 20-9, 21-9, 22-9.
