While La Roja is looking for a coach to replace Eduardo Berizzo, Nicolás Córdova, the technical head of the youth teams, will coach against Ecuador in the playoffs. The former coach of Qatar under 23 accepted one of his biggest challenges.
“He is a great professional, he has the best mood and he accepted it in a good way, responsibly and professionally. He immediately met with the players and started working on the analysis of the opponent before eight in the morning. The players have accepted him very well,” said Pablo Milad, president of the ANFP.
However, the highest authority in Chilean football quickly ruled out that Córdova could continue with an adult in the future: “He came to train. That’s what he’s interested in and he’ll continue in that because that’s his wish, regardless of the result (…), I talked about it with him because it’s a good thing to say.”
So Córdova, one of the natural candidates, was omitted from the list of coaches who could lead the absolute Red from 2024. The coach, yes, could lead the sub-23 at the Venezuelan Pre-Olympic Games, which will be held in January.
Deadlines for the selection of the new DT Chile
Pablo Milad assured that he had already spoken with the other directors and they defined that FIFA’s date in March will be the deadline for the new coach: “We have to watch calmly because we want the best coach for the national team.”
Furthermore, the former mayor of Maule ruled out that the economic situation of the ANFP is a problem in the search for a technician: “There was a lot of speculation, but the conditions are quite satisfactory. We will look for the best option and there we will balance one thing with another,” he concluded at a press conference held in Quilín. (D)
