International Bandy Federation cancels 2024 World Championships
The 2024 Men’s and Women’s IIHF World Championships have been cancelled. This was reported on the website of the International Bandy Federation (FIB).
“It is unfortunate that the FIB must acknowledge that clubs and national associations that initially expressed interest in organizing tournaments have subsequently decided not to do so,” the FIB said in a statement. It is noted that the federation will focus on hosting the world championships in 2025.
The Russian Bandy Hockey Federation, with reference to Bandypuls, reported in a group on VKontakte that three Swedish cities applied to host the men’s tournament, but they refused to organize the competition. The Women’s World Cup was planned to be held in Norway, but the country’s bid was also withdrawn.
In 2023, the world championship was held in Sweden. The Russian team, which at that time was the current world champion, was not allowed to participate in the competition.
