The economist expressed that there is unequal behavior in the labor agents, since underemployment in Trujillo grows from 2.5% to 3.5% during the third quarter of 2023, compared to the same period in 2022.

“Unemployment among women has increased even more, reaching 7.8% this third quarter of 2023, that is not good because women and children are vulnerable groups in society. In 2022, unemployment in the female segment reached 4.8%. In addition, from October 2022 to September 2023, in Trujillo, the average monthly income from work (main and secondary income) was S/ 1,909.20. The average income of men reached S/ 2,215.30, being S/ 685.20 higher than the income of women (S/ 1,530.10),” he stated.

In another part of his statements, the president of the EEI stated that in the third quarter of 2023, the employed population in the city of Trujillo reached 542.4 thousand people, which means that it increased by 7.4% year-on-year (37.4 thousand people).

“Between October 2022 and September 2023, in Trujillo, of the total employed population, 63.6% have informal employment, That means that they have an employment relationship that is not subject to national legislation, they do not pay taxes, they do not have social protection coverage and they lack employment-related benefits,” said specialist Francisco Huerta.
