Argentina’s Eduardo Berizzo has resigned as Chile’s technical director following a goalless draw with Paraguay this Thursday in Santiago, for the fifth round of South America’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

“I expressed my desire to hand over my duties to the president of the Federation. The results were not as expected and that is worth acknowledging,” said ‘toto’.

Berizzo took over in May 2022, replacing the Uruguayan Martín Lasarte. However, his performance was mediocre. He managed to achieve only one official victory, against Peru, for the third round of these qualifying rounds.

Chile is eighth in 2026 ahead of the World Cup with five points. (D)
