Mercedes wanted to deprive Verstappen of the championship title

Mercedes executives have sent two protests to the FIA after the Grand Prix of the Formula 1 World Championship in Abu Dhabi. This was reported on the website of the organization.

The team wanted the FIA to assess the legality of the Dutch Red Bull driver Max Verstappen overtaking Mercedes representative Lewis Hamilton behind the safety car. The second protest refers to a violation of the overtaking procedure in the safety car mode. If any of the protests are satisfied, Verstappen will lose the championship title.

Earlier on December 12, Verstappen became the winner of Formula 1 for the first time in his career. The 24-year-old Dutchman won the championship at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where he was ahead of Hamilton. Before the race, they had the same number of points.

Verstappen has been competing in Formula 1 since 2015. His best achievement so far was third place in 2019 and 2020. Hamilton seven times became the champion of “Formula 1”.
