The dialogue that took place virtually was a preamble to the 37th FAO Regional Conference, which will be in Quito
The transformation of agri-food systems was the main issue addressed by the Ministers of Agriculture members of the Andean Community of Nations (CAN) last Friday.
The dialogue was guided by Pedro Álava, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock of Ecuador, as representative of the Presidency Pro tempore of the CAN. At the meeting, they spoke about the perspectives of each country, focused on the transformation of these systems.
Álava highlighted the importance of this space to generate proposals in view of the 37th Regional Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to be held in Quito, in 2022, after 73 years, when Ecuador was the headquarters in September 1949.

“As the host country, we seek to strengthen ties and articulate an Andean regional position regarding the celebration of the Conference,” said Álava.
Later, the undersecretary of Rural Lands and Ancestral Territories of the MAG, Carlos Vasconez, spoke on some priority issues for the countries of the region.

This is the case of Family Agriculture and Rural Women that the institution, through the Undersecretariat of Family and Peasant Agriculture, promotes, through initiatives and proposals focused on sustainable production with an agro-ecological approach, crop diversification, rescue of ancestral knowledge, link to markets and intersectoral articulation.
