Escaped Ukrainian fisherman Bilan: it’s a shame that many people wrote me down as a traitor
The 2021 world champion in spinning fishing from the shore, Artur Bilan, responded to accusations of betrayal after escaping from the Ukrainian national team. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Bilan said that he was offended that many immediately wrote him down as a traitor. “But I saw how many smart and thinking people there are still. The support was very high – 90 percent,” the athlete added.
On November 14, the captain of the Ukrainian street fishing team, Danil Lyasov, announced that Bilan left the team after competing at the World Championships in Italy. According to him, the athlete ran away when everyone was sleeping.
Bilan explained that the decision was difficult, but he had already been sent two summonses to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He also noted that he does not plan to seek political asylum in Russia.
