Deputy Rodnina called the Russian Figure Skating Grand Prix “the Housing Office championship”

Three-time Olympic champion in figure skating, State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina ridiculed the Russian Grand Prix in figure skating. Her words are quoted by Sport Express.

Rodnina called the competition “the housing office championship.” She emphasized that she could follow the Grand Prix at work, but she is not going to do this in her free time. “I, a participant in ten world championships and three Olympics, have no interest in watching a Grand Prix where only Russians participate,” the deputy concluded.

On November 10, choreographer Ilya Averbukh announced a general decline in interest in figure skating in Russia. According to him, this is noticeable at the stages of the country’s Grand Prix.

On March 1, 2022, the International Skating Union (ISU) banned Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions under its auspices. Due to sanctions, skaters were unable to take part in the World and European Championships, as well as in other international tournaments. In this regard, it was decided to hold the Russian Grand Prix.
