IOC head Thomas Bach said the Paris Olympics will not be canceled due to wars
International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach assessed the likelihood of the 2024 Games in Paris being cancelled. His words are quoted by Inside the Games.
Bach said the Olympics will not be cancelled. In his opinion, there are many wars between governments and countries in the world, but athletes have always taken part in the Olympics, as this is consistent with the Olympic mission. “Our mission is humanitarian. People also need something that will unite them,” explained the head of the IOC.
On November 1, the IOC spoke out about the conflict between Israel and Palestine. In their opinion, athletes cannot be held responsible for the actions of their governments.
After this, the organization stated that the IOC’s recommendations towards the Russians were a consequence of the start of a special operation during the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing 2022. They emphasized that this was a violation of the Olympic Truce in force at that time.
The Olympic Games in Paris are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
