Russian fighter Pavlovich lost to Tom Aspinall by knockout in UFC title fight

Russian fighter Sergei Pavlovich lost to Briton Tom Aspinall in the title fight of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). This was reported by a Lenta.ru correspondent.

The fight, in which the organization’s interim heavyweight champion belt was at stake, took place as part of the UFC 295 tournament, held in New York (USA) and lasted just over a minute. Aspinall knocked out Pavlovich in the second minute of the first round.

The defeat was the second in Pavlovich’s career. Before that, in the UFC he lost to the Dutchman Alistair Overeem. The Russian fighter has 18 victories; before the fight with Aspinall, he won six fights in a row. The Briton won for the 14th time in professional MMA with three defeats.

Before the fight, Aspinall called Pavlovich the best fighter in the world and added that he was preparing for a five-round fight. “He hits the right shots at the right time. There are a lot of fighters in the UFC who have the same power, but they don’t have the results that he has: early round finishes and knockouts,” Aspinall said.

Initially, current heavyweight title holder American Jon Jones and his compatriot Stipe Miocic were supposed to fight at UFC 295. However, shortly before the fight, Jones injured his shoulder, which is why he was forced to withdraw from the fight. Pavlovich was the alternate for this fight, but the UFC brought him to Aspinall.
