Ilya Averbukh announced a decline in interest in figure skating in Russia

Choreographer Ilya Averbukh announced a general decline in interest in figure skating in Russia. Sport Express reports this.

According to him, this is noticeable at the stages of the country’s Grand Prix. “Probably, it’s enough to watch the TV broadcast; even palaces with a capacity of 3,000 were not gathered. Only in Omsk was there a beautiful picture that we have become accustomed to seeing in recent years,” noted Averbukh.

He added that the Russian Figure Skating Federation and television are doing everything possible. “The tournaments are organized according to aerobatics, from the way the athletes are met at the airport to the fact that they are accommodated in very good hotels. Channel One – thanks to him for continuing to support skaters and show tournaments,” said the choreographer

On March 1, 2022, the International Skating Union (ISU) banned Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions under its auspices. Due to sanctions, skaters were unable to take part in the World and European Championships, as well as in other international tournaments.
