Sergei Kononykhin linked Trusova and Shcherbakova’s missed season with a change of generations
Vice-President of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) Sergei Kononykhin spoke about the consequences of missing the current season by Olympic champion Anna Shcherbakova and silver medalist of the Games Alexandra Trusova. Sport Express reports this.
According to him, this did not lead to the technical degradation of women’s single skating. “I didn’t notice any simplification of the technique. In my opinion it’s the opposite. There is a natural change of generations,” said Kononykhin.
He also noted that the level of women’s single skating in Russia is very high. “Soon new stars will appear who will also show off new jumps,” Kononykhin said.
Trusova’s decision to skip the 2023/2024 competitive season became known on August 30. Shcherbakova did not announce that she was skipping the season, but the athlete was not entered into any competitions and was not included in the Russian national team.
