Peruvian striker Paolo Guerrero, the architect of Liga de Quito’s South American Cup triumph, scored his first goal of the Ecuadorian tournament on Saturday in a 2-0 win over Independiente del Valle, a result that allows him to appreciate the possibility of challenging for the title this season.

Although Guerrero had to wait until the twelfth game he played in the national tournament with the Albos to score his first goal, his performances were valuable as the Quito club won seven games, tied three and lost one.

For South America, PredatorGuerrera, as they call him, scored three decisive goals, also in stoppage time in the round of 16 and the quarter-finals, but missed a penalty in the final against Fortaleza, although his team eventually won and added another Copa Sudamericana to their portfolio.

For this reason, the management of the university is already working on putting together the squad for 2024, the year in which they will try to keep coach Luis Zubeldía, as well as the Peruvian and all the elements that break their relationship at the end of this year.

The Peruvian striker is cautious about the issue of renewal and only limited himself to the fact that his contract expires on December 31 and that he will “certainly” continue next season.

Esteban Paz, leader of the people of Quito, revealed that talks would begin to see the possibility of expanding ties with Guerrero.

“We have not yet started conversions with Paolo Guerrero’s representative, we will do so in the following days,” Paz said in an interview with MachSports. (D)
