The Stade de Reims beat Saint-Étienne this Saturday, in a match valid for the 18th round of the French Championship. Playing at home, at the Stade Auguste-Delaune II, the team won 2-0 and pushed the opponent to the last position in the table.
Reims’ first goal was scored in the first half, on minute 23, when El Bilal Touré opened the scoring with a penalty kick.
In the first half, Saint-Étienne striker Denis Bouanga was sent off. With one less, the visiting team launched the attack in search of a draw, but was unsuccessful.
At 43 minutes into the second stage, Reims extended the score with a goal from Mbuku, who closed the account for the home team and guaranteed the victory.
With the result, Reims is in 14th place, with 22 points, and cannot be overtaken in this round. Saint-Étienne, on the other hand, is the bottom of the competition, with just 12 points added.
Earlier, for the French Championship, Montpellier thrashed the Stade Brestois, away from home, with goals from Wahi, Mavididi, Sambia and Germain.
