Makhachev’s coach spoke about the fighter’s fight with McGregor

Mendes said that the fight with McGregor will not bring a legacy to Islam Makhachev

Javier Mendez, coach of the Russian champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Islam Makhachev, spoke about a possible fight against the Irishman Conor McGregor. His words are quoted by the YouTube channel.

“Beating Conor will not give him the legacy he wants. Conor’s name is associated with money and hype. If the fight took place, it would not be for sporting reasons,” the coach said.

The specialist also assessed Makhachev’s chances of winning this fight. “If this was a real sport, Conor wouldn’t have a chance. But in terms of entertainment, he has it because he is still the biggest name right now,” Mendes added.

On November 4, Makhachev said that McGregor did not deserve to fight him. “If he deserves it, comes back, wins a few fights, then why not?” — the Russian explained.

On October 21, Makhachev defended his UFC lightweight title for the second time. The Russian knocked out Australian Alexander Volkanovski in the first round. In total, 32-year-old Makhachev had 26 fights in his career, in which he won 25 victories, losing only once.
