Jokin Altuna will be Peio Etxeberria’s rival in the final of Cuatro y Medio 2023 (22-21)
Jokin Altuna will play on November 19 at the Bizkaia fronton in Bilbao, which will be its eighth final of Cuatro y Medio after defeating Erik Jaka 22-21 in the second semi-final played this Sunday at the Astelena in Eibar.
The one from Amezketa, who decided to play the semifinal on Friday after taking a final test due to the discomfort he was experiencing, has once again played an epic match against an Erik Jaka whom he already faced, and beat, in the final played in 2020.
The match started quite evenly, and Erik Jaka was the first to open a gap on the scoreboard (7-3) taking advantage of Aspe’s discomfort on the pitch. But Altuna never gives up and with a partial 0-11supported by a good finishing serve and Jaka’s difficulties in going on the attack, has taken the lead 7-13.
Things, however, were not yet on track for Jokin Altuna. Jaka has recovered the serve and has begun to take risks with long serves that have dislocated his rival and he has achieved equalize the game at 15 points in front of a stand handed over to both pelotaris.
The one from Lizartza has continued adding goals until he is in a comfortable and hopeful position. 20-15, after a miscalculation by his rival who let a ball go by thinking it was going out and finally bounced inside. The one from Amezketa was totally out of place.
The next goal, very important for both, was for Jokin, thanks to a Jaka’s lack of serve. The red-ball player made the mistake at the worst of times.
That has given wings to Jokin Altuna, who has gotten closer to 20-18 and after the 21-19 has had enough composure and game to carry the tied at 21 to the marker. In the last goal, the magician from Amezketa has once again worked his magic, that special personal and unique touch that always puts him one step above his rivals. With the final 21-22, Jokin Altuna will play his eighth final and will look for his fourth txapela of the cage on November 19 against Peio Etxeberria in Bilbao.
