Pavel Bure explained the refusal of a US passport by his reluctance to be torn between countries
Former forward of the National Hockey League (NHL) Vancouver Canucks and Olympic medalist in the Russian national team Pavel Bure explained the refusal of an American passport. His words are quoted by Match TV.
The hockey player said that while playing in the NHL he had to live in two countries. After finishing his sports career, he realized that he did not want to be torn between two states. “Well, why? I prefer to be at home in Russia,” Bure emphasized.
The fact that the forward renounced his American citizenship became known in 2016. Information about this was published in the US Federal Register.
Bure played in the NHL since 1991 for 12 seasons. He played for Vancouver, the Florida Panthers and the New York Rangers. In 2012, the forward was inducted into the league’s Hall of Fame. As a member of the Russian national team, Bure won silver and bronze medals at the 1998 Olympics and 2002 Games, respectively.
