Tardif called the decision on Fedotov the main concern of the IIHF related to the Russian Federation
The head of the International Hockey Federation (IIHF), Luc Tardif, named the organization’s main concern at the moment related to Russia. TASS reports this.
According to him, this is a quick decision by the federation’s disciplinary council in the case of CSKA goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov. On August 14, the IIHF disqualified the goalkeeper for four months, but the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) still allowed him to play in the tournament.
Prior to this, Tardif recalled that the goalkeeper’s suspension was effective from September 1. “If CSKA violates these rules, the IIHF will open a disciplinary case against the club,” the functionary noted.
On July 1, Fedotov signed a contract with CSKA. The NHL expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, as it violates the goalkeeper’s current agreement with Philadelphia, concluded in May 2022. At the same time, the Russian tried to fly to the United States, but he was detained in St. Petersburg on suspicion of evading military service. After this, the player was sent to serve in the Russian Navy. A year later, the athlete was demobilized.
