The USA will become the opponent of the Russian national hockey team at the 2026 Olympic Games if admitted
The US national hockey team will be one of the Russian team’s opponents in the group stage at the 2026 Olympics in Italy if the Russians are allowed to participate in the tournament. This was reported on the website of the International Hockey Federation (IIHF).
The teams were assigned to Quartet C. Their other two opponents will be named based on the results of the qualifications. The composition of Group A is currently fully known. Canada, Sweden, Switzerland and Italy are included in it. Group B will feature Finland, Germany, the Czech Republic and one qualifying team.
On October 19, the head of the Russian Hockey Federation (RHF), Vladislav Tretyak, named the condition for the return of Russians to international tournaments. In his opinion, this will not happen until the end of the special operation in Ukraine.
The IIHF suspended the Russian and Belarusian national teams from participating in competitions under its auspices in February 2022. Russia was also deprived of the right to host the 2023 World Cup and the World Youth Championship.
