Much to their credit, Liga de Quito won the Copa Sudamericana by beating Brazil’s Fortaleza 4-3 on penalties on Saturday after drawing level at 1 in 120 minutes, in the only final of the tournament played in Punta del Este, Uruguay.
Albi arrived in the capital of the Republic on Sunday evening with the precious cup that their fans were waiting for.
The team left Mariscal Sucre airport in a double-decker bus whose colors alluded to the club and where the players were showing the Copa Sudamericana.
Amidst a wave of thousands of fans, the cell phone traveled through various sectors of Quito, with fans waiting for it to pass to show their gratitude to their heroes.
But in videos circulating on social media, White fans not only dedicated themselves to cheering on their team by chanting, but also remembered Barcelona SC, the team they tried to make look like the fiercest rival and therefore, only with the capital press sector that the duel between the two looks like a “classic”.
“Who doesn’t jump is a toreador…” shouted the university fans in unison, who apparently still have a “thorn” after the yellows beat them 1-0 at Rodrigo Paz Delgado in recent months, where the yellows had never celebrated, since of its inauguration in 1997, three points in ninety-minute games.

Added to that, in 2020, under the leadership of Fabián Bustos, the Canaries defeated Pablo Repetto’s team on penalties and made an Olympic turn in that sports scenario, which until then was insurmountable for the people of Guayaquil.
At the Rodrigo Paz Delgado stadium, formerly known as Casa Blanca, only two teams have made the Olympic circuit at the national level: Barcelona SC and Emelec. (D)
