Lasitskene said that she made a mistake by not writing to the Ukrainian Maguchikh earlier
Russian athlete Maria Lasitskene revealed the contents of the letter she gave to Ukrainian Yaroslava Maguchikh. It is brought by Sports.ru.
The athlete expressed regret that what happened between Russia and Ukraine influenced her opponent’s attitude towards her. She stated that she made a mistake by not writing Maguchy earlier. “At that moment, I thought that my words would not help you in any way. But silence does not equal consent,” Lasitskene emphasized.
The athlete apologized for her weakness, as she could not find the right words. “I was afraid that my “how are you there?” will make you even more angry. I was sure that nothing I said would ease your worries and suffering,” she added.
Earlier on October 30, Maguchikh said that the Russian woman contacted her only in the summer of 2022 after the media wrote about the lack of response to the political situation. She stated that she refused to communicate with Lasitskene, since she should have made contact earlier.
During the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Lasitskene and Maguchikh took a group photo. The athletes won gold and bronze, respectively, in the high jump competition. At home, the Ukrainian was criticized and was summoned for a conversation at the Ministry of Defense.
