Former Ukrainian football player Aliyev said that he is comfortable communicating in Russian
Former midfielder of Dynamo Kyiv and the Ukrainian national team Alexander Aliyev explained communication in Russian. His words are quoted by Tribuna.
“I feel comfortable speaking Russian. Yes, I can speak Ukrainian, but I don’t want to be laughed at,” said the footballer. Aliyev added that he wants to communicate as he sees fit, because this is everyone’s personal business. He emphasized that he always spoke Russian.
Aliev was born in Khabarovsk and during his career managed to play in Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine. The footballer also played for Lokomotiv Moscow, Anzhi Makhachkala and Dynamo Kiev.
In the winter of 2022, before the Olympic Games in Beijing, the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine advised athletes to refuse interviews in Russian. Also, athletes from Ukraine were prohibited from posing in joint photos with Russians.
