Ukrainian Maguchikh spoke about a letter of support from Russian Maria Lasitskene

Ukrainian track and field athlete Yaroslava Maguchikh spoke in an interview with Evgeniy Pronin’s YouTube channel about a letter of support from Russian Maria Lasitskene.

“She wrote to me, but you know, there was this message: “Sorry that I didn’t write earlier. I thought you didn’t need this, why do you need this. My support and words are optional,” Maguchikh shared. According to her, the Russian woman contacted her only in the summer of 2022 after the media wrote about the lack of response to the situation.

The Ukrainian noted that it would have been different if Lasitskene had written to her in February 2022. “She supported me as an athlete and the girl she competed against. But then she wrote: “I know that you won’t understand me.” I simply lost this desire, when even earlier I was waiting for something,” added Maguchikh.

During the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Lasitskene and Maguchikh took a group photo. The athletes won gold and bronze, respectively, in the high jump competition. At home, the Ukrainian was criticized and was summoned for a conversation at the Ministry of Defense.
