The head of Dagestan saw a “foreign trace” in the unrest in Makhachkala

The riots at Makhachkala airport were an “attempt to destabilize the situation” in the republic. They could have been supervised from abroad, says the head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov.

“Attempts to destabilize the situation in Dagestan <…> carried out by our enemies, opponents of our country,” Melikov noted, TASS reports.

“Today we have received absolutely reliable information that the Morning of Dagestan channel is administered and regulated from the territory of Ukraine,” Melikov added. He did not provide any other details.

Let us remind you that on the evening of October 29, several thousand people gathered near the Makhachkala airport. They opposed the landing of the plane from Tel Aviv. A group of people broke into the airport, paralyzing its work. Some people broke into the international terminal building of the airport and blocked it, and then ran out onto the runway, the publications “Podyom” and “Izvestia” reported. Makhachkala airport was closed for departures and arrivals. Due to the unrest at the airport, a headquarters was created “in connection with the socio-political situation”, headed by the head of Dagestan Sergei Melikov. A little later, the Ministry of Health reported dozens of people injured as a result of the unrest. The Department of the Investigative Committee for Dagestan opened a criminal case, the investigation of which was taken under control by the republic’s prosecutor’s office, and the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the North Caucasian Federal District promised to establish the identities of everyone who took part in the riots.
